A NEW toy for me--what fun!

Here's my new "toy"....the Big Shot diecut machine made by Sizzix. Starting Sept 1st, Stampin' UP! customers will be able to order this item as part of the new line of diecut products. This interesting "top note" diecut shape is one of the exclusive Stampin' UP! diecuts and am I ever having fun with it! The unique shape has a perforated line around the edge making it easy to layer with other colors for a custom mat. If you already have a Sizzix style diecut machine, the new dies will also work with your machine.

For this project, I ran two colors of cardstock through the diecutter (yes, it will cut multiple layers and even handle chipboard, fabric, adhesive vinyl...you name it!) then tore off the outside perforated line of the vanilla cardstock to layer onto the olive. This was one of the projects at stamp club last week-end...how terrific is it cutting multiple layers with only one swipe of the diecut machine???

This card used Inspired by Nature, a new set from the Stampin' UP! 2008 Fall/Winter Catalogue and Idea Book which is rapidly becoming a favorite of mine because of the great look and the many ways it can be used. Colors used were Old Olive, Chocolate Chip (such a great low calorie stamping treat!) Summer Sun and Really Rust as well as Chocolate taffetta ribbon and the new wide oval punch. A bit of paper piercing around the outside of the Old Olive layer and around the edge of the punched out sentiment mimics the look of the perforated edge on the diecut.

Coloring the image was easy using sponge daubers, a great little trick I picked up from Dawn's Stamping Studio, one of my favorite blogs. You can find her video tutorial by clicking here. (http://dawnsstampingthoughts.typepad.com/dawns_stampin_studio/2008/08/note-card-envelope-holder.html ) . When using daubers or markers to color an image, keep a blender pen handy to repair any little blank spots that you miss while stamping. Just pick up a bit of matching ink from the inside of the ink pad lid and fill in the boo boo!

If you read my previous post about taking my youngest son to college earlier this week, you know that I am finding the house pretty quiet and lonesome this week-end. So....while my husband is out playing golf today, I'm going to head down to my stamp room and work on some more projects with this great new set!

I'm sooo jealous. You have two things on my wish list...Big Shot and Inspired by Nature. Big Shot will soon be on its way, and hopefully IBN as well.

To comment on something you wrote in a previous post, to get the picture where you want it, just click on it and drag it to where you want it. I hate that with Blogger when you upload more than one photo in a post they all go to the top, but at least you are allowed to click and drag to move them.

Happy stamping!

I like your card! I don't have the Big Shot, I have a cuttlebug, and now I wish I would have waited to get it, although right now I don't have the funds in my Stamp Stash to get the BS anyway.

Over and over, I wished that I already had that stamp set. Looks like I'll probably be buying that set next. You're such an inspiration!

Wow, I really like how you have used the stamp set with the die. It really makes it pop. I like all of the detail that you added with the paper piercing. It is one of my favorite techniques.
