Party Hearty card...so quick and easy!

This stamp set, Party Hearty, is one of the birthday sets being offered for 20% off (with $20 purchase) for the month of October so naturally I had to break down and finally get this cute little set. Don't you just love it when Stampin' UP! has a birthday and WE get the presents?

I'm not usually a big fan of using markers directly on the rubber (too much work! did I mention that I'm a quick and easy stamper?) but this row of party hats just begged to be different colors, so what could I do? I actually received a card almost identical to this one as part of an organized swap for single layer cards during the Stampin' UP! summer '08 convention. I pulled it out to use for a stamp a stack I did recently and now can't find the original with the name of the demonstrator who created it. But trust me, she did a great job!
I love the way the Word Window punch works to punch a spot for the "party hearty" sentiment to be stamped inside but viewed from the outside as well. I had a bit of trouble getting the words to stamp cleanly so I extended the punch over a bit to give me more room to fit the phrase and it worked pretty well. The only trick is to push the punch all the way in as far as it will go so you can then easily slide it over one way or the other to extend the punched space out a little farther and still be sure that it will be lined up perfectly.

If you know me and my "ribbon fetish", then you won't be surprised to find that I added wide red grosgrain to my version...the original used the 1/4th inch red grosgrain wrapped across the bottom of the card and the card opened "steno book style". I made my card open from the right side (book style) so I put my ribbon across the left "spine" of the card. I am "bow impaired" so I don't even try making pretty bows but even I can make a pretty knot using this beautiful wide grosgrain.

Anyway, just thought you might enjoy seeing my version of this cheery birthday card. Don't forget that the 20% off birthday sets offer (see the flyer on the right side of my blog) is only good through the end of this month in celebration of Stampin' UP!'s 20th birthday celebration. I'll be showing this card plus demo'ing another simple card using this set at my October workshops, so if you are interested in earning some great freebies contact me asap as October...and the October special will be gone before you know it.

I like it! The bright colors suit this set very well especially on the hats. I don't use my word window nearly enough.....I just need more time......

This is one of my favorite stamp sets! So much you can do with it! You can use bright colors and make it pop...great for cards for kids/boys...or use softer colors to make it more elegant.

You're doing valentine cards w/ Just Jawing? I can't WAIT to see those!!!!!
