This Halloween Frankie has a "Mini Me"!

I know, I know...for someone who doesn't really get all fired up about Halloween, I have gone overboard this year! Not only did I make up several dozen little bags of candy corn adorned with owls (see previous post) but now this! We won't even get into that photo corner punch spider card from last week....not going there, shhhh!

Butl, if the truth be told, I will have to blame it on my strong affection (addiction is such a harsh word!) for my Stampin' UP! punches! All of these projects are primarily made with punches and I have really been having fun with them the past week or so.

The Frankie style card has definitely been all over splitcoaststampers and I believe it began with a convention swap card made by one of my sideline SU demonstrators, Kathy Alt of Freeburg, IL. I wasn't lucky enough to get one of her cards but I did see a picture of her with a cute Frankenstein card on Dawn's Stampin' Studio, one of my favorite blogs. Dawn didn't get her name but had snapped a photo of her with the card and I recognized her from that.

Anyway, this particular version is my absolute favorite....the card on the left, with the orange patterned background. I saw a card created by Diane Mello (but inspired by a friend of hers named Gretchen) and couldn't resist copying it. Of course, I had to change the decorative paper used on the card since I didn't have the same DSP she used but other than that, this card is completely "stamplifted" from her sample which she shared online via a demonstrator only yahoo group to which I belong. It uses the Sizzix Big Shot Top Note diecut which I am really enjoying. I love this shape for his face and I opted not to put "bolts" in his neck for a less intimidating Frankie.

For this great card, I used the Designer Series Paper (DSP) from the Holiday Mini called Ski Slope...loved the Tangerine color of this particular print...it's perfect for the fall season without screaming ORANGE!!! To make the card, I used Kiwi Kiss and Basic Black cardstock run thru the Big Shot with the Top Note die. I did his hair "free hand" using scissors....a little tip, you can do 2 "hairstyles" with one diecut because the shape is the same on either end. Generally speaking, you do not want to be near me with haircutting scissors but in this case I think I did ok and fortunately, Frankie isn't that picky about his hair style so it's all good.

His eyes are done with circle punches (I used the 1" punch for his pupils and the 1-1/4th inch circle for the whites of his eyes (yes, the sclera). Same punch for his eyelids...only I punched out one circle, cut it in half and sponged Old Olive classic ink around the face template and the "eyelids" to give it a little definition. Hey, even Frankie wants to look his best on Halloween!

For the nose, you use the tab punch folded in half (or snip it in half and get two noses for the price of one???) also sponged with Old Olive classic ink. His mouth was hand drawn using a journaling marker. I stamped the Happy Halloween (All Holidays item #109307) in black underneath and voila! that was all it took.

Now, in case you are wondering about the "Mini Me" version of Frankie....this adorable goodie was created by one of my stamping friends, Kathye DeLuca after she made the Frankie card at my last card buffet class. She is so smart...she figured out that one of our new SU punches is the same shape as the Sizzix Top Note die and went home from class to come up with her own little mini version of Frankie using the much smaller but equally adorable Curly Label punch. Is that not the cutest little mini-me ever? She attached it to the back of a tiny Reese's Peanut Butter cup so that the candy wouldn't show and the shape of the candy holds the Frankie face in the right position.

So, that's it for my Halloween post of the day...hope that you have a great day and may your Halloween be all treats and no tricks! Jan
