Cheery Cherries!

I am happy to share this card with you today....it's one that I did at my Simply Stampin' Meet Up Group class last month.  I liked it so well that I "beefed it up" a little and made several dozen to take with me to swap at the Stampin' Up! Regional event in Louisville, KY later this month.

This card uses a great set called Button Buddies which has a variety of "all occasions" images which are both cute and useful!  I got it for free at the Stampin' Up! Convention last July, but it is still available to purchase. Paired with a "thanks"  stamp from another stamp set, it makes a quick and cute thank you note.  There is a small strip of patterned paper at the bottom of the card to add a bit of color and a knotted ribbon (for this card I used the Old Olive wide grosgrain ribbon, now retired) to accent the green leaves on the cherry.

This set is ideally suited for using with buttons (you know how stampers are always adding crazy embellishments...buttons are VERY popular for this!) but naturally, I didn't have enough buttons for everyone in the right size and color so I made up some button wannabees using card stock.  I punched small holes side by side on a scrap of Riding Hood Red card stock, then used a 1" circle punch and centered it over the two holes to punch out "faux buttons" for the card.  See the close up photo below for a better look....I popped them up using a Stampin' Dimensional snipped in half on each end of the button so you couldn't see the white of the foam dimensional thru the button holes, then added some "faux stitching" with a white gel pen.   When I stamped the cherries and stem, I used markers to ink up the stamp....having a red spot underneath helped me know where to stick the faux buttons and gave some depth to the card too.

This card was fun and easy to make...in the first card you'll notice an extra "leaf" which I added by inking and stamping just one leaf on the image, while it is cute, I confess the real reason I put it on there was to cover a green inky fingerprint which somehow made it onto the card while I was finishing the project.  there are no mistakes in stamping, only opportunities for embellishment!

Here is the "beefed up" version of the same card, for this one I substituted the new ruffled grosgrain ribbon (same color) for the retired ribbon in the original.  I changed the decorative paper (designer series paper or DSP) to a current pattern and added another layer of card stock, Lucky Limeade to the bottom of the card.

If you happen to be attending the Louisville regional, please be sure to look for me and swap!  If you are interested in learning how to make one of these cards, I would love to teach you and your friends how at a quick and easy card workshop!
